What is stress? Stress is our body’s response to pressure. This can be caused by any number of things. We all have it in our lives. The key is to take opportunities to reduce and/or alleviate it on a regular basis.

I had an opportunity to obtain some supplies yesterday based on a friend alerting me about them. I decided to take Luna and go for a walk on the beach. We found an entrance we hadn’t used before. It didn’t take a long time and we’d already had a walk, but man it felt good. I love listening to the waves.

I’m continuing to get ready for our opening this Saturday. It is stressful, but I’m trying to fit breaks in when I can. How do you relieve stress in your life?

How does one come up with a name? I ask myself that every time I come up with a new product.

The Channel Islands off the coast of Santa Barbara are rich in history. The man who built the house I lived in a few years ago discovered the remains of pygmy mammoth there. He also discovered the oldest human remains in North America and they became known as The Arlington Man. I’ve visited the islands a few times and their beauty never ceases to amaze me. I never would have imagined that such colorful beings lived under the water in and near the kelp forests.

Anyway, I’ve decided to name this new soap Channel Islands. For some reason, that’s what came to my mind.

I had a few minutes to work on this ring today. It still needs a more love, but getting close! I believe this is the first rectangular stone I’ve set. Good experience for sure!

Are any of you taking inventory to make sure you don’t run out of product and supplies? I’ve made orders today for more purple padded envelopes, more solid perfume tins, rolls of bubble wrap, and a few things from #riogrande all necessary for the upcoming holiday season. Never a dull moment!

I’m really glad I didn’t have to go out today, since I heard the freeway has a hole and was down to one lane. What a mess. I wish you all a Happy Friday with safe and smooth travels if you’re on the road.

So, how many days till Christmas? I’m really not sure, but today we started setting up at A Crimson Holiday for the holiday season. I got a lot of watercolor giclees hung and put out most of my cards. Still lots to do, but I’m glad I got a jump on it!!

Are any of you doing something similar? I’d love to know we’re not the only ones. 😂

Ever feel like a juggler with your work/projects? This ring is something I started at the beginning of the month. Isn’t that a cool stone?

I hadn’t had a chance to get back to this until a couple days ago. But sometimes there’s one pesky thing that keeps going wrong. For some reason, one side of the ring shank kept coming up. I actually almost melted the whole thing! But this afternoon, I finally got the upper hand. Whew! I could tell I’d been away from my soldering station for too long!

Do you keep lists of things to do in your head or do you write things down? I mostly have things in my head. I’ve ticked off a couple more things today and yesterday. I got my drafting board cover installed after it relaxed for a couple days. I also got another batch of soap made yesterday. It’s another men’s soap. Last time I called it Lizard’s Mouth after a rock structure up on the mountain here. I’m thinking about changing the name. 🤔 Maybe after one of the beaches instead.

I’m feeling very relaxed today. Some longtime friends treated me to a massage for my birthday. Is that sweet or what?!

Are you familiar with this specimen? We’ve been seeing them for the first time this year. It’s a red cage fungus and it smells like trash. Flies even love them and actually spread their spores! Also seen in the garden is a new little frog, a damaged (and probably dying) plant that a gopher has been gnawing on (grrrrr!!!), Luna running around and the afternoon light coming through the oaks. I couldn’t stand being inside any longer and needed to get out here and take a break. Hope you’re having a good weekend!

Know what this is? Any old school graphic designers will know. It’s a Mayline rule on my drafting table. The vinyl board cover was totally shot from years of use, cutting things like labels, signs, cards, even perfecting mat board. I had actually cut into the table, so a new vinyl was definitely needed. Especially with a new season upon us. Out with the old and in with the new.

The vinyl is supposed to ‘relax’ for at least 24 hours since it’s rolled so tightly for shipping. Kinda like flying these days and getting jammed into a tight space. And yes, it’s so important to take the time to relax. We can all learn from that.

So I’ll have to wait on cutting the spaces for the Mayline for a few more hours. A lot of things just take time and require patience. The up side is that it gives you time to rest. 😁♥️

Wanna guess what cuts my soap? I thought I’d share how I do it.

First of all, when you sell soap, there are certain requirements… like listing the weight of the soap, the ingredients, who made it and where it was made. So instead of using a knife, I use some tools that my honey made me that make the cuts to insure they’re the same size and weight. The size is important because I create labels, and they need to fit the same for each bar. The first tool is the simplest. And actually used last. It bevels the edges with a blade. I lay the soap on the wood to the side, which creates a 45 degree angle. The second tool shown cuts the large flat molded soap into three lengths. The third tool cuts the soap into bars. Both of the last two tools use a guitar string to cut the soap! He’s a guitar player and has plenty of strings. And soap isn’t difficult to cut before it cures and hardens. So nothing ever needs to be sharpened.

I feel very fortunate to have these beautiful handmade tools to cut my handmade soaps. 🥰♥️

How do you feel when your hard work pays off? Probably about like I’m feeling right about now. 😃🐠 Wheeee! I finally had success with metal etching! That steel plate I’ve been working on turned out great. And both instructors were there and wanted to see how it would turn out. Everyone was happy with the results. And I have a good bit of silver to start creating with. I also spent time on Tuesday sanding hammer heads so those are ready to try next. It’s a good day!!

How ‘bout you? Positive news to report? I’m all ears!

Oh, and that last shot is a rockfish curry my son made for us last night. Another birthday celebration. I’m feeling well loved. 🥰
